Glasswells Does Lots for Charity

George Woodward

30th July 2014

Charity Work

We are often approached to support local raffles and charities and we try our best to donate to as many as possible.

Over the past months, we have been fortunate enough to support two local charity events. Elders and Deacons of Horringer Court Community Church held a Community Fun Day in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. Glasswells were able to contribute to their raffle and overall they were able to raise a fantastic £100 for a very worthy cause.

Another great cause that Glasswells were able to help was for George Woodward. George suffers from a serious spinal disorder, SMA Type 2. A fundraising event was held on the 25th May and an amazing £8000 was raised.

We feel fortunate to be able to support and work with local charities and we love hearing how well the fundraising is going.

Glasswells Installs Solar PanelsSolar Panels at Bury st Edmunds

Going Green

24th July 2014

We have invested in nearly one thousand solar panels which have been installed on the south facing slopes of the roof on our Newmarket Road store. The panels cover over 20,000 square feet and are part of our wider initiative to go 'green'.

Paul Glasswell, Managing Director explained the reasons behind the move to renewable energy, “The panels should generate up to 250kw of energy, which will significantly reduce the amount of electricity we consume from the national grid. We have another large store in Ipswich and a 76,000 square foot warehouse on the east side of town, which could both be considered for the same sort of thing in the future. This is a large investment for the Company, however, the long term benefits to the environment and the reduction in our Carbon Footprint over the next thirty years are certainly worth the initial outlay. This venture identifies Glasswells as a forward thinking, progressive and environmentally responsible organisation within East Anglia.”

St Nicholas

"Thank you so much for hosting a Quiz Night and raising an incredible £800 towards the work of St Nicholas Hospice Care – it is truly appreciated.

Without the support of businesses such as yours we would not be able to provide the levels of care that we do to the people of West Suffolk and Thetford with life shortening illnesses. Please extend my thanks to your colleagues and pass on my very best wishes."

Paul Glasswell Explains How Glasswells Has Been
Left in the Broadband 'Dark Ages'
Paul Glasswell, Managing Director, spoke to the Bury Free Press and expressed his frustration at not being able to benefit from fibre optic broadband at our Newmarket Road site. “It is a strange situation, we are in the middle of a little oasis of old technology. Music Sales, Towergate, Kent Blaxhill and Lee Gage are all on fibre optic broadband. The cabinet by the road that we are attached to is a copper cable connection, yet 100 yards in one direction and 100 yards in the other, there are fibre optic cables, but we cannot get to them.”
