storage 20th anniversary 2019

Glasswells Storage & Distribution Service Celebrates 20 Years

In 1946 the first Glasswells furniture shop was opened in Bury St Edmunds. We expanded rapidly across the county and, in 1958, built our first warehouse to take care of our home removals, distribution and storage needs. 40 years later, in 1999, we had outgrown the original site and took the decision to invest in a new larger, purpose-built warehouse on Kempson Way. The extra space gained created a new opportunity for Glasswells, and they began to let it out as third party storage for businesses; a division that has grown from strength to strength over the last twenty years. Further investment was made in 2015, with the addition of an extension and new mezzanine Archive facility, which increased the warehouse to a massive 80,000 sq. ft. and offered its customers even more flexibility.

Paul Glasswell explained “Whilst we needed somewhere bigger to store our own stock and customer orders, we took the decision to build a warehouse that was much larger than our own needs so that we could rent some of this extra space out to third parties. We were already experts at handling and distributing goods across the country, so it seemed an obvious next step to take. It is an affordable option for businesses with restricted space at their own premises or complicated distribution channels. Our brilliant team provide a bespoke service, working with our clients as though they were a part of their business.”

Silent Gliss Office

Silent Gliss Training

Silent Gliss are the leading global supplier of quality interior window systems. They have a commitment to precision & use cutting edge technology to make bespoke systems with smooth gliding curtains and blinds.

Annie from our newly-refurbished Curtain Department in our Bury St Edmunds store recently took a trip down to Luton to their latest seminar and training day.

She spent the day learning about the new products they will be offering, as well as all about their existing products. Perhaps the most exciting development was an integrated home system to control your curtains and blinds, along with your heating, lighting and security in your home. Another interesting development is the introduction of Move. Silent Gliss Move is a wireless system which is very similar to Alexa and Hive. The Move server is plugged into your internet router and blinds and curtains can be operated by an app on your phone or tablet, allowing you to set scenes and timers. Perfect for the modern home!

Annie had a great time learning more about what Silent Gliss has to offer, and feels confident that she is now better able to inform Glasswells customers, and guide them towards their perfect home window systems.

If you're thinking about new blinds for your home, give us a call today on 01284 752804, or send us an email.
