Another Award for Glasswells

Glasswells Bury St Edmunds 'The Place to Eat' restaurant has been awarded the maximum five stars for hygiene following a review by the Suffolk Authorities; this is their highest level of recognition that they award.

This follows the announcement back in March when their Ipswich restaurant gained the same recognition. The award forms part of Suffolk Authorities Scores on the Doors scheme for food businesses throughout the region. The scheme provides information to the public about the result of our most recent food hygiene inspection. Each business is given a star rating between 0 and 5 stars and the results are posted on the website of that particular authority.

The number of stars awarded is determined by our scores for food hygiene and safety procedures, structure, cleanliness, condition and confidence in food safety management, awarded at our last food hygiene inspection.

It was an unannounced visit from the Environmental Health Department from St Edmundsbury Borough Council who carried out the hygiene inspection. They were very thorough, checking the premises in great detail; not only were fridge contents checked for dating and correct storage; staff were also questioned about procedures and their hygiene knowledge.

Robert Hawkins, Operations Director comments, "I am particularly proud that now both of our Place to Eat Restaurants have been awarded the highest possible accolade of 5 stars. Our heartiest congratulations go to the whole team on this magnificent achievement, a result which was thoroughly deserved."

The Place to Eat restaurants at both Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich Glasswells stores are open daily, serving everything from coffee and cake to full three course meals.
