Eco-Friendly Investements

In 2013, our Bury St Edmunds store replaced 4,500 light fittings and bulbs with a switch to more energy efficient LED lighting and invested in a solar panel system, covering 20,000sq ft of roof space, in 2014. In 2022, an additional 410Kw solar panel system was installed on the roof.

During the summer periods we can generate enough electricity to run the buildings. These solar panels significantly reduce the amount of electricity Glasswells consumes from the national grid, benefitting the environment and reducing our Carbon Footprint over the next thirty years dramatically.

2021 involved replacing the air conditioning system at the Bury St Edmunds store. This provided a more economic and efficient cooling and heating system, which has reduced the use of gas for heating.

This is a significant investment which shows Glasswells’ commitment to continue minimising the environmental impacts of our business operations.

Low Emission Removal Trucks

In 2014, we started replacing our fleet of removal trucks, with six low emission, ultra-efficient DAF Euro 6 Removal trucks. The 15 ton HGVs can take up to five containers and have been specially developed for maximum transport efficiency, offering low operational costs, optimum vehicle performance and an even higher level of driver safety and comfort.

Environmentally, the new trucks satisfy the EU Directive on low emissions and, therefore, can be used to enter low-emission zones throughout Europe such as London and Paris.

As well as these large investments, the recycling of cardboard, plastic, mattresses, carpets and underlay is pursued at every opportunity.
