Glasswells are very excited to unveil our new look Atrium at Bury St Edmunds store!

Almost 20 years ago we built an extension to house an impressive atrium entrance, extensive Homewares and Bedroom Departments and a purpose built carpet warehouse, and whilst the flooring was completely redone a couple of years ago, this renovation will complete the modern look and feel of the area. Managing Director Paul Glasswell explained,

Glasswells always strives to offer our customers the latest and most stylish furnishing options and it is essential that our environment provides visitors with the very best shopping experience to match this. We are a forward thinking Company and understand how important it is to move with the times and embrace change. Whilst the store will be given a fresh new look, our ethos of offering the widest choice, at the best value, with the highest customer service will remain the same.”

The work has been planned and managed in-house by our Visual Merchandiser & Interior Designer, Sarah Norris; her experience of creating inspirational and attractive displays to enhance the customer journey, plus her passion for interior design made her the perfect candidate for the job. Sarah began work in October 2016, with a £150,000 22-seat extension to our very popular in store Place to Eat Restaurant. A colour palette of cool greys and mix of natural materials were selected to give a modern and airy industrial feel; a scheme which will run across the rest of the project.

The start of work was delayed by lockdown and then also by the extensive flooding at our Bury St Edmunds store at the end of August, but was back under way by the start of September.

Craftsmen have been putting up new walls and decorating them, ready for the beautiful new displays to be put in situ and the finishing touches applied by our in store Visual Merchandisers and Designers. We will be integrating more technology to offer tech-savvy shoppers a more interactive and informative experience in our store.

The first phase of our huge refurbishment works commenced in late 2017, involving uplifting all of the old flooring in the first floor Bed and Bedroom departments. Over 100,000 square feet of bespoke flooring by Ege Carpets and Karndean luxury vinyl tiles was installed by Glasswells expert contract carpet fitters. The works continued with huge numbers of partition walls being added to create beautiful room sets in our showroom to better help you visualise how items will appear in your own home.

Above are some artists impressions of the end product, and below are images of the finished Atrium.

Our contractors have been very busy over the past month and rushed to get everything ready for our big reopening on 3rd December – we think they have done an amazing job!

Updating our Atrium is just one more phase of a massive program of work which will continue into the future, including the modernisation of the Home Accessories and Lighting Departments.
