VAT Relief Information

If you have a long-term illness or are disabled, you don’t have to pay VAT on certain goods and services that you buy in the UK. In general the furniture covered by this scheme are things that are of practical help to you because of your illness or disability.

Look out for the VAT relief available logo on products when browsing the site. All products showing this are eligible for VAT relief.

If you are in any doubt as to whether you are eligible to receive a VAT refund you should consult Notice 701/7 VAT relief for disabled people or the HMRC National Advice Service on 0845 010 9000.



How to claim VAT Relief

All prices displayed on our website include VAT. If you qualify for VAT relief you can place your order online in the normal way. You will then need to fill out this form Download Here and send it to us. Upon receipt of this form we will then refund the VAT back to you. This will be refunded to the same card that you made payment with or if you have paid via V12 finance this will be adjusted to reflect the the VAT refund.

If possible the person making the claim should complete this form, but a family member, carer or medical professional may complete the form on the claimants behalf.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR VAT RELIEF?

To be eligible for VAT relief the government says you have to fit the following criteria:

Charities – simply provide your charity number.

A person is ‘chronically sick or disabled’ if he/she is a person:

  1. With a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon his/her ability to carry out everyday activities; with a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes; or
  2. Who is terminally ill.

Important note: It does NOT include a frail elderly person who is otherwise able-bodied or any person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb.


WHAT PROOF DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?

In order to claim your VAT refund we will ask you to complete a simple form. Which you can download here.

In order to receive  VAT relief on an eligible purchase, the government requires a simple declaration to be made as to the nature of your disability at the time of ordering. No proof of your disability need be shown to any party at any time.

Its very easy to claim VAT relief, all we need to know is the name, address and disability of the person the item is for, and what their chronic sickness or disability is. We don’t need a doctor’s letter or any reference numbers.

All information submitted is included in our privacy policy and we keep it completely confidential.


WHICH ITEMS ARE ELIGIBLE?

VAT relief only applies to certain items; these are items which have been designed to be used by someone who is chronically sick or disabled. Examples of such products are lift and tilt riser chairs, adjustable beds and specific mattresses. If an item has a ‘VAT Relief available’ notice on our site, and you are eligible (as above) then you are entitled to buy these products and claim a VAT refund.


HOW DO I PLACE AN ORDER?

Just add the qualifying items to your basket, these can be identified if they qualify for Vat Relief by having ‘VAT Relief Available’ displayed, just add to your basket, and check out. When we have received your declaration form we will arrange for the VAT to be refunded to you.


HOW CAN I CLAIM MY VAT REFUND?

Just print off the VAT relief declaration form here. Fill out the form and send it to:
